Samsung Galaxy Android Nougat Update Info (2016)

The Marshmallow update continues to roll out in force but that hasn’t stopped many phone and tablet owners from setting their sights on Nougat. It’s still early but today we want to take a look at everything we know, so far, about the Nougat update.

For several months now, Google and an army of beta testers have been using the company’s next major update.

Android N, now called Android 7.0 Nougat, is available right now in early form for select Nexus smartphones and tablets. Later this year, it will land in official form for Nexus devices and devices from popular Android manufacturers.

isn’t talking about its plans for Android Nougat yet but Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners should be keeping tabs on Google’s progress as we push through the summer. Why? Simple. The Galaxy Nougat release is all but confirmed.

Today we want to take a look at everything we know so far about Samsung’s plans for its Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners. This roundup is going to walk you through the important details about the Samsung Galaxy Android 7.0 Nougat release.

Samsung isn’t talking about its plans for Android Nougat but this roundup includes information about the Galaxy S7 Nougat update, the Galaxy S6 update, the Galaxy Note 5 update, the Galaxy Note 4 update, and more.

We’ll continue to update this as we, and others, receive more information.

Samsung Galaxy Android Nougat Update

Let’s start with what we know about the Android Nougat update itself.

Google’s released a Android Nougat Developer Preview that confirms many of the features coming on board the Android Nougat update. The look and feel of Samsung’s version will obviously be a bit different but this is the foundation the company will use for its brand of Nougat upgrades.

Samsung’s version of Nougat is still in development behind the scenes but the past few months have given us a few clues.

XDA-Developers have discovered Android Nougat hints on Samsung’s Developer site and it looks like the update could deliver improved stylus support.

The site mentions the Edge (the bent screen on devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge) and it also mentions the company’s S Pen, a style that comes bundled with its Samsung Galaxy Note line.

A recent report suggests that Samsung is testing a TouchWiz UI overhaul complete with optional app drawer. The change has appeared on software in the Galaxy beta software program on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

This beta isn’t available worldwide though. It’s currently limited to Galaxy Note 5 devices in China and Korea.

It’s not clear when these changes are coming but there’s a chance we see them emerge with the Galaxy Note 7 in August and for other devices later in the year.

Samsung Galaxy Nougat Release Date

Samsung isn’t talking about the Galaxy Android 7.0 Nougat update so it should come as no surprise to learn that it’s not talking about the Galaxy Nougat release date either.

Nothing is confirmed but rumors suggest that Samsung’s first Galaxy Android Nougat updates could roll out in Q4 of this year. Q4 includes October, November and December.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, and Galaxy Note 5 will reportedly be first in line to the Android Nougat update. This shouldn’t come as a surprise either.

Samsung’s flagships are almost always in the front of the line for new Android updates and you can expect its current flagships to be first to the new Android upgrade.

Galaxy-nougat

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7, due out in August, will be running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow instead of Android Nougat.

It will almost certainly be the first to the Android Nougat update though Samsung hasn’t confirmed that just yet.

After those roll outs have started, you can expect mid-range Galaxy smartphones and tablets to get their taste of Nougat.
