7 Things to Know About the iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 Update

The  10.3  is now available to download
. With that in mind, we want to take a look at the most important things to know, right now, about Apple’s brand new 7 10.3 .

Apple’s finally released a new milestone upgrade for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The iOS 10.3 beta is over and the final version of the iOS 10.3 update is out for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple’s two flagship devices.

As expected the iPhone 7’s iOS 10.3 update is massive bringing new features, fixes and security patches to the popular device.

When we say iOS 10.3 is a huge upgrade for the iPhone 7 we mean it literally. If you’re upgrading directly from iOS 10.2.1, you’re looking at a 600MB update.

If you’re coming from something older than iOS 10.2.1, your iOS 10.3 update will be much larger thanks to iOS 10.2 and any iOS updates you skipped along the way. Features and fixes from older iOS updates will be baked into your version of iOS 10.3.

Today we want to take a look at the most important things you need to know about the iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 update.

This roundup includes iOS 10.3 tips, some details about the iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 update’s performance, and a look at what’s ahead for the iPhone 7 and iOS 10.

We’ll continue to update this page with new information so check back in with us for regular updates.

iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 Impressions & Performance

 1 / 7

First, we want to talk a little bit about the iOS 10.3 download
and installation process on the iPhone 7.

The iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 download
took about seven minutes to complete over a fast Wi-Fi connection. Again, you’re looking at a 600MB file if you’re coming from iOS 10.2.1. Expect a larger download
if you’re on something older.

The installation process took longer than usual. The update took 13 minutes to complete on our iPhone 7. This is due to the file system change. With iOS 10.3, Apple’s switched over to AFPS.

Mileage will vary but we recommend putting aside 30 minutes to monitor your iOS 10.3 download
and installation. We didn’t run into any major issues with the iOS 10.3 installation but there’s no telling what you might run into when you begin the process.

As for the iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 update’s performance, we’ve spent three full days with the update and we’ve been keeping an eye on a few key areas including battery life and connectivity. Here’s what we’ve discovered thus far.

Battery life is holding steady. We haven’t experienced any weird drain during our time with the update. iOS updates aren’t supposed to negatively impact battery life so if you see something strange, take a look at our list of tips to improve battery life on the iPhone.

Wi-Fi, cellular data and Bluetooth connectivity is strong. We’ve tested the phone with several different ISPs, routers and Bluetooth devices. We haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. LTE and 4G are also performing at a high level.

Random reboots have been a problem on our iPhone 7 models but we haven’t noticed any in the days since the iOS 10.3 release. We haven’t noticed any user interface lag either. Animations and transitions are still fast and fluid.

So far, the iPhone 7 iOS 10.3 update feels stable on our models. The combination of steady performance, bug fixes, new features and security patches make it an update worthy of your consideration. (Note: There are a mind-boggling number of patches on board this update. If you value your security, you probably want to download
it soon.)

We’ve put together a list of reasons to, and not to, install the iOS 10.3 update on your iPhone right now. So if you’re on the fence about making the jump to the new update, we recommend reading it before making your move.
